Pretty Good AI vs Assort Health
Pretty Good AI vs Assort Health
Assort Health is a well-funded generative voice AI company selling into large groups across many EHRs. Pretty Good AI is built only for athenaOne. Here is where each one wins.
The short answer
Assort Health and Pretty Good AI both put a generative AI voice agent on a practice phone line, and both are listed on the athenahealth Marketplace. The difference is scope. Assort Health is a heavily venture-backed company selling voice AI across many EHRs, built to answer very high call volumes for large groups. Pretty Good AI builds only for athenaOne, connects to 500+ athenaOne APIs, and extends past the phone into referral intake, schedule and capacity, revenue protection and KPI reporting inside the same integration.
When Assort Health is the better fit: You run a large multi-EHR enterprise where athenaOne is one system among several, you want a single voice vendor across all of them, and the mandate is call deflection at volume rather than deeper athenaOne workflow automation.
Pretty Good AI vs Assort Health, side by side
| Dimension | Pretty Good AI | Assort Health |
|---|---|---|
| EHR scope | athenaOne only. Every workflow is written against athenaOne, not abstracted across systems. | Sells across multiple EHRs, with athenahealth groups a named focus. |
| Integration depth | 500+ athenaOne APIs connected, out of roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes. | Does not publish an athenaOne endpoint count. |
| Scope beyond voice | Voice-first and omni-channel: voice, text, video, web and fax, with patient-engagement infrastructure for surveys, AI forms, reviews and reputation management, plus modules for referral intake, schedule and capacity, revenue protection, and outcomes and KPIs. | Voice-led: scheduling, FAQs, refills and triage on the phone. |
| athenahealth Marketplace record | 17 reviews, all five-star, 40 practice connections, listed since September 2025. | 4.9 average across 10 reviews, every review five stars, 74 practice connections, listed since August 2024. |
| Marketplace growth, 22 May to 4 September 2026 | 17 to 40 practice connections, +135.3% — the highest growth rate of any listing that started the window with 10 or more connections. | 58 to 74 practice connections, +27.6% — the strongest growth of any established voice AI vendor in this set. |
| Funding posture | Bootstrapped. Fewer accounts, more engineering time per account. | Venture-backed through a Series C. More capital, more accounts, broader mandate. |
| Published pricing | Pricing model published: platform per location, a per-provider fee for the modules switched on, voice per call. Quote on request. Your first 30 days live are free, and terms are month-to-month. | No public pricing. Contact sales. |
| Scope beyond the phone line | The same integration runs fax and web referral intake, the web scheduler and self-check-in, waitlist backfill and appointment acceleration, tickler and order-driven recalls, balance and payment workflows, post-visit outcome calls and surveys, and forms signed inside athenaOne. | Voice AI across many EHRs, built to answer very high call volumes for large groups; the published product is the phone line. |
The honest version of this comparison
Assort Health is a serious company. It is well capitalized, it answers a very large number of patient calls, and its athenahealth Marketplace listing has been live since August 2024 with 74 practice connections against our 40. On raw market presence in this category, they are ahead of us.
Where the comparison gets interesting is what each product is actually optimized for.
Multi-EHR versus athenaOne only
Assort Health sells voice AI to healthcare organizations generally. That is a bigger market and a harder engineering problem, because a workflow written once has to hold up across systems that model appointments, orders and eligibility differently.
Pretty Good AI made the opposite bet. We build only for athenaOne. That is a real constraint — if you are not on athenaOne we cannot help you at all — and it is the reason we can connect 500+ athenaOne APIs out of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes. Most vendors in this category connect somewhere between ten and twenty. The number matters because it decides what the AI can actually finish on its own rather than hand back to your staff.
Where the products diverge
Both products answer the phone, schedule, handle refill requests and take FAQs. Past that, the shapes separate.
Assort Health is voice-led. The pitch is that generative agents pick up calls that would otherwise sit in a queue, and they are good at that.
Pretty Good AI treats voice as the front door rather than the product. Secure two-way texting is in development on the same athenaOne integration, and the AI team modules behind it already work the parts of the practice a phone agent never touches: fax and email referral intake, tickler and order outreach, waitlist backfill and no-show recovery, eligibility and prior-auth prep, denials and appeals, and per-call QA with KPI reporting. You turn those on as you need them. You do not sign a new vendor for each one.
When to buy Assort Health instead
If you are an enterprise running several EHRs and you want one voice vendor across the whole estate, buy Assort Health. If the board mandate is “get the hold times down at scale” and nobody is asking about referral leakage or denials, they will get you there and they have the capital behind them to keep investing.
If you are standardized on athenaOne and the phone is the first thing you want fixed but not the last, that is the case we are built for.
The test that settles it
Ask both vendors the same three questions and compare the answers side by side.
- How many athenaOne APIs do you write to, out of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes? A vendor who cannot answer this has not measured it.
- When the AI cannot finish a task, what exactly does it write back into athenaOne before it hands off? “It creates a task” and “it books the appointment, updates the chart and closes the tickler” are very different products.
- What does the first 30 days live cost, and does it run on live patient calls in our own environment or in a demo tenant?
Then run both on your own call volume for thirty days. The transcripts will tell you more than either of us will.
Why practices pick us over Assort Health
Four parts, one platform, and each part uses the others. Most of the vendors on this site own one of these four well. The argument for us is that the same integration and the same patient memory carry all four, and that it is athenaOne only.
Patient engagement
We bring patients in and keep them close
We pick up the phone, day and night. Patients reach you by phone, text, chat or video. They book, reschedule, ask for a refill or get an answer. We call and text for you too — confirmations, recalls, and open slots to fill. Our AI remembers what a patient already told your practice, across every channel, so nobody repeats themselves.
Workflow automation
We do the staff work that piles up
A cancellation, a new referral, an overdue follow-up or a staff request starts a job. We do the steps, reach the patient if we need to, and hand the rest to your staff with everything they need. Your team sees the work in the Pretty Good AI Console or right inside athenaOne. Clinical decisions stay with your care team, always.
Referral management
We turn referrals into first visits
Referrals arrive by fax, portal and form. We track each one from intake to first visit, chase the missing information, reach the patient and book the visit. You see where every referral stands, and where the funnel leaks.
Revenue cycle
We keep revenue moving
Money leaks around every visit. We check insurance before the visit, track approvals so visits are not held up, call patients about balances, set up payment plans, and follow up on the claims your team hands us. Built to your billing team’s rules.
We only do athenaOne
One system means we go deep. We connect 500+ of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes, and we read and write the real record — no middleware. Most vendors in this category connect ten or twelve. That depth is what lets a workflow finish instead of stopping at a handoff.
We build yours
If you can write down the rule, we can automate it. Your scheduling rules, your intake questions, your handoffs, your billing follow-up. And if another athenaOne marketplace app does a workflow you need, we can build it for you — same APIs, your rules, one vendor.
Live and measured
- 100,000+
- patient calls a month, at more than one customer
- About 60%
- of those calls handled start to finish by the AI at the largest deployments
- Hundreds
- of providers inside a single group
- 20
- specialties on our athenahealth Marketplace listing
The mix is deliberately wide: FQHCs, family practice and primary care, OB-GYN, behavioral health, orthopedics, pulmonology and sleep, gastroenterology, urology, urgent care and surgery centers among them. Different specialties break the front office in different places, and the rules that fix them are not the same rules.
Customer-reported results. Your numbers will vary by workflow, staffing, seasonality and call mix.
Month to month, no setup fees. We build your first workflow before you pay anything, then the first 30 days live are free from the day it goes live — not the day we start building.
We don’t sell AI. We build yours.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between Pretty Good AI and Assort Health?
- Assort Health is a venture-backed generative voice AI company that sells across multiple EHRs and is built for high-volume call deflection at large groups. Pretty Good AI builds only for athenaOne, connects to 500+ athenaOne APIs, and covers voice, text, video, web and fax with patient-engagement infrastructure for surveys, AI forms, reviews and reputation management as well as back-office modules for referrals, scheduling, revenue protection and KPI reporting.
- Is Assort Health athenahealth-native?
- Assort Health is listed on the athenahealth Marketplace and names athenahealth groups as a focus, but it is a multi-EHR product rather than an athenaOne-only one. Pretty Good AI is athenaOne-only, which is a narrower commitment and a different engineering posture.
- Which one is better for a large multi-site group?
- If the group runs several different EHRs and wants one voice vendor across all of them, Assort Health is the more natural fit. If the group is standardized on athenaOne and wants automation that reaches past the phone into scheduling, referrals and revenue workflows in the same system, Pretty Good AI is built for that shape.
- How much does Assort Health cost?
- Assort Health does not publish pricing and directs buyers to contact sales. Pretty Good AI also quotes rather than publishing a list price, but publishes the pricing model itself: a monthly platform fee per location, a per-provider fee for the modules switched on, and voice metered per call handled.
