Pretty Good AI vs Qure4u

Pretty Good AI vs Qure4u

Qure4u has the deepest patient-engagement review base on the athenahealth Marketplace and gives its Q2 AI assistant away free. It is also text-only. What that trade actually costs an athenaOne practice.

7 min read

The short answer

Qure4u is a broad patient self-service suite with 18 published modules and the deepest review base of any patient-engagement vendor on the athenahealth Marketplace — 729 reviews at a 4.84 average, and the only listing in its comparison set actively reviewed in 2026. Its Q2 AI assistant is free to start and is text and chat only, with no voice agent and no call answering; Qure4u’s own stated ceiling is cutting phone calls by up to 50%. Pretty Good AI is athenaOne-only, connects to 500+ athenaOne APIs out of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes, and answers the calls that self-service does not absorb.

When Qure4u is the better fit: You want the widest set of self-service modules at the lowest possible cost and phone volume is genuinely not your bottleneck. Qure4u does more distinct things than anyone else in this set — remote patient monitoring, care plans, patient-reported outcomes, hospital rounding, curbside check-in — its patient-adoption numbers are the best evidenced of any vendor here, and Q2 starts free.

The competitor most athenaOne practices already have

Qure4u does not show up on many competitor lists, and it should. It has been on the athenahealth Marketplace since November 2017, it has 405 practice connections, and it carries 729 reviews at a 4.84 average — with 24 of them in the last 12 months. That is the only actively reviewed listing in this comparison set. Practices like it, and they say so recently.

So this page is not going to argue that Qure4u is weak. It is going to argue that Qure4u and Pretty Good AI solve two different halves of the same problem, and that most practices are only buying one half.

What Qure4u is genuinely excellent at

Breadth, and patient adoption. Eighteen published modules, reaching further than anyone else here — digital check-in, self-scheduling, rebooking, waitlists, curbside check-in, consents, telehealth, surveys, text messaging, remote patient monitoring, care plans, patient-reported outcomes, hospital rounding.

Their published adoption numbers are the best-evidenced in this category: 95% of patients completing digital check-in, 90% of copays collected before the appointment, 60% to 80% self-scheduling adoption, a 30% cut in no-shows, twelve minutes saved per check-in.

If your patients will use a portal, that is a strong package. And Q2, the AI assistant, is free to start.

The half Qure4u does not serve

Q2 is a text and chat assistant. Verified 3 September 2026: there is no mention of voice AI, an AI voice agent or call answering anywhere on the Qure4u homepage or the Q2 product page.

Qure4u is explicit about the strategy, and it is a coherent one:

Q2 eliminates phone calls. No more endless back-and-forth, Q2 allows patients to self-serve.

That is deflection by portal. It works on the patients who will self-serve, and Qure4u’s own stated target is cutting phone calls by up to 50%.

Read that number the other way. Half the calls still come. They come from the patients who are older, sicker, less digital, in a hurry, or calling about something a form cannot answer — and those calls land on your front desk, at the worst moment, exactly as they did before.

We take the other half. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, the patient books or reschedules or gets a refill or asks about a balance, and the result is written into athenaOne before they hang up. Secure two-way texting for patients who prefer to type is in development on the same integration, with video targeted for November 2026.

Free is a signal, not a bargain

Q2 being free is worth thinking about rather than reacting to. Qure4u’s own framing is that free access removes barriers to AI, and as a land-and-expand motion into paid modules it is smart.

It is also a statement about where the value sits. A text assistant that routes patients to self-service is a feature that a patient-engagement suite can afford to give away. Voice that completes work inside athenaOne carries real per-call cost and real integration depth, which is why we meter it per call actually handled and do not bill for hang-ups, wrong numbers or spam.

Compare the right things: not free versus paid, but which of the two moves work your staff is doing today.

Beyond the patient conversation

The other difference is what happens after the appointment is booked. Qure4u reaches into clinical adjacencies — monitoring, care plans, outcomes. We reach into the administrative and revenue path:

  • Fax and email referral intake, a provider referral portal, self-referral forms, referral status tracking
  • Tickler and order outreach, waitlist backfill, no-show recovery, lapsed-patient reactivation, provider-departure rescheduling
  • Eligibility and insurance verification, prior-auth status and preparation, denials and appeals, balance collection, payment links and plans
  • Per-call QA scoring, KPI dashboards, outcome and relief calls, a call review console

Those are the workflows practices tell us consume the most staff hours, and they run on the same athenaOne integration as the phone.

What we would tell you to check

Pull your own call log for last month. Count the calls that arrived outside business hours, and the ones that were about something a form could not answer. That number is the part of your front office Qure4u’s model leaves in place, and it is the number this decision turns on.

Then ask both vendors the same question: show me one interaction that ends with athenaOne updated and no task created for staff.

Why practices pick us over Qure4u

Four parts, one platform, and each part uses the others. Most of the vendors on this site own one of these four well. The argument for us is that the same integration and the same patient memory carry all four, and that it is athenaOne only.

Patient engagement

We bring patients in and keep them close

We pick up the phone, day and night. Patients reach you by phone, text, chat or video. They book, reschedule, ask for a refill or get an answer. We call and text for you too — confirmations, recalls, and open slots to fill. Our AI remembers what a patient already told your practice, across every channel, so nobody repeats themselves.

Workflow automation

We do the staff work that piles up

A cancellation, a new referral, an overdue follow-up or a staff request starts a job. We do the steps, reach the patient if we need to, and hand the rest to your staff with everything they need. Your team sees the work in the Pretty Good AI Console or right inside athenaOne. Clinical decisions stay with your care team, always.

Referral management

We turn referrals into first visits

Referrals arrive by fax, portal and form. We track each one from intake to first visit, chase the missing information, reach the patient and book the visit. You see where every referral stands, and where the funnel leaks.

Revenue cycle

We keep revenue moving

Money leaks around every visit. We check insurance before the visit, track approvals so visits are not held up, call patients about balances, set up payment plans, and follow up on the claims your team hands us. Built to your billing team’s rules.

We only do athenaOne

One system means we go deep. We connect 500+ of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes, and we read and write the real record — no middleware. Most vendors in this category connect ten or twelve. That depth is what lets a workflow finish instead of stopping at a handoff.

We build yours

If you can write down the rule, we can automate it. Your scheduling rules, your intake questions, your handoffs, your billing follow-up. And if another athenaOne marketplace app does a workflow you need, we can build it for you — same APIs, your rules, one vendor.

Live and measured

100,000+
patient calls a month, at more than one customer
About 60%
of those calls handled start to finish by the AI at the largest deployments
Hundreds
of providers inside a single group
20
specialties on our athenahealth Marketplace listing

The mix is deliberately wide: FQHCs, family practice and primary care, OB-GYN, behavioral health, orthopedics, pulmonology and sleep, gastroenterology, urology, urgent care and surgery centers among them. Different specialties break the front office in different places, and the rules that fix them are not the same rules.

Customer-reported results. Your numbers will vary by workflow, staffing, seasonality and call mix.

Month to month, no setup fees. We build your first workflow before you pay anything, then the first 30 days live are free from the day it goes live — not the day we start building.

We don’t sell AI. We build yours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Pretty Good AI and Qure4u?
Qure4u is a patient self-service suite — check-in, self-scheduling, payments, forms, remote monitoring — with a free text and chat AI assistant called Q2. Pretty Good AI is athenaOne-only, connects to 500+ athenaOne APIs, and answers the phone: booking, refills, eligibility, prior-auth preparation, denials and balance collection, completed in athenaOne on the call. Secure two-way texting and web chat are in development on the same stack.
Does Qure4u have an AI voice agent?
No. As of September 2026 there is no mention of voice AI, a voice agent or call answering anywhere on the Qure4u homepage or the Q2 product page. Q2 is a text and chat assistant, and Qure4u positions it as a way for patients to self-serve instead of calling.
Q2 is free. Why pay for Pretty Good AI?
Because they solve different halves of the problem. Q2 is free text self-service for patients who will use a portal, and Qure4u reports 60% to 80% self-scheduling adoption. The 20% to 40% who do not self-serve pick up the phone, and Qure4u has nothing for them — its own published ceiling is cutting calls by up to half. We answer the other half, and we do the back-office work around it.
Is Qure4u well regarded by athenahealth practices?
Yes, and it is worth saying plainly. Qure4u has 729 reviews at a 4.84 average on the athenahealth Marketplace, with 24 in the last 12 months — the most active review stream of any vendor in this comparison set. Real practices are genuinely happy with it. Its patient-adoption numbers are also the best evidenced here: 95% digital check-in completion, 90% of copays collected before the appointment, a 30% reduction in no-shows.
