Pretty Good AI vs Solutionreach

Pretty Good AI vs Solutionreach

Solutionreach is an all-in-one engagement suite with an AI receptionist added. Pretty Good AI is built only for athenaOne. Suite breadth against depth.

The short answer

Solutionreach is one of the longest-established patient engagement suites in healthcare, listed on the athenahealth Marketplace since November 2017 and covering reminders, two-way texting, online scheduling, digital intake, recall, surveys, reputation and payments across dental, eye care and medical practices. It holds 102 athenahealth Marketplace practice connections as of 7 September 2026 and has recently added an AI receptionist to the suite. Pretty Good AI is the AI operations platform built exclusively for athenaOne practices. We answer calls and texts, bring patients in, automate staff work, turn referrals into completed first visits, and keep revenue moving, on production access to 820+ athenaOne APIs, with every workflow tailor-fitted to your rules. If you want one vendor covering many communication features across several practice types, Solutionreach has spent two decades assembling that. If you run on athenaOne and want the phone answered, the staff work done and the revenue moving from one platform that keeps expanding with you, that is what we built.

A suite built for many systems, or a platform built for one

Solutionreach has been selling patient engagement since before most of this category existed. The feature list is long because two decades of customer requests made it long, and it spans dental, optometry and medical because that is where the company grew.

Breadth like that is a real asset. It is also the constraint. A feature that has to work for a dental office, a vision group and a medical practice gets built to the average of the three.

We went the other way. One system, athenaOne, and a platform that goes as deep into it as the API surface allows. We don’t sell AI. We build yours.

What breadth costs you inside athenaOne

Here is the thing a feature comparison hides.

Every item on a long feature list works. Reminders send, forms sync, surveys go out. The question is what happens at the edge of each feature, and the edges are where the work actually lives.

A patient calls to move an appointment, but the visit type has a prerequisite and the provider is out that week. A referral arrives missing the imaging. An eligibility response comes back failed in a way that will become a denial. A patient wants to pay, but there is a payment plan on file with terms that matter.

None of that is a messaging problem. All of it is a chart problem, and reaching into the chart to resolve it takes depth rather than a connector. We hold production read and write access to 820+ athenaOne APIs, with no middleware in between, and our app runs inside athenaOne with no extra login. That is the difference between sending a patient a message about a problem and closing it.

Both of us will show you an AI receptionist

That line is now on most vendor sites in this category, including ours, so it has stopped being useful on its own.

What separates them is architecture, and we say this as a statement about builds rather than about quality. A real-time voice agent has to respond in under a second, tolerate being interrupted, and call into athenaOne while the patient is still on the phone. Asynchronous work, texting, reminders, forms, has no such constraint: it can take four seconds to think and nobody notices.

A platform that grew up doing asynchronous messaging and added a voice assistant is layering real-time behavior onto an asynchronous foundation. We were built voice-first and extended outward to secure two-way text and web. Neither history guarantees an outcome, which is why the only fair test is your own calls.

Bring the three worst ones. The patient who changes their mind halfway through booking. The caller who talks over the agent. The request that needs something rescheduled and a note left for staff in the same call. Run those on both.

Messaging is one part. Here are the other three.

Patient engagement is where a suite like Solutionreach lives, and it is where we start too: calls and secure two-way text answered day and night, confirmations, recalls, open slots filled, surveys and review requests after the visit, all on one patient memory so nobody repeats themselves.

Then the platform keeps going.

Task automation. Cases, orders, results and requests stack up in your inbox. You choose the tasks and set the rules. We run the steps, including patient outreach, and track every job in the queue.

Referral management. Referrals come in by fax, portal and form. We track each one until the patient completes the first visit, chase missing information, reach the patient and book. You see where the funnel leaks.

Revenue cycle. We check insurance before the visit, track approvals so visits are not held up, contact patients about balances and review documented payment plans, and follow up on the claims your billing team hands us. Built to your billing team’s rules.

Underneath all four is the intelligence layer. We combine your athenaOne data with the results of everything we handle, so you can see where patients get stuck and where provider time goes unused. As conditions change, we rebalance outreach and scheduling across providers and locations, within your rules. More approved visits happen before authorizations expire. More provider time becomes care delivered.

The work that is not a message

A four-location group we would recognize: a shared front desk pool, 20-odd providers, and a phone that is the bottleneck every single morning.

Their engagement suite is doing its job. Reminders go out, no-shows are down from where they were, patients can book online. And the staff are still underwater, because the volume that reaches a human was never the part reminders addressed.

That is the queue we built for. Calls answered every time, including after hours and weekends. Booking, rescheduling and refill requests handled and written into athenaOne. Referrals worked rather than stacked. The slot that opened at 8am filled from the waitlist by 9. The eligibility failures from Monday resolved before they become denials in October.

If reminders and online scheduling were most of what you were buying, one vendor can now cover that, the phone, and the work behind both, on a single athenaOne integration that keeps expanding.

How to decide

Answer three things and it resolves.

Is every location on athenaOne? If yes, depth in one system is available to you everywhere and it is worth a lot. If no, we cover the locations that are.

Which half of the problem is bigger, outbound or inbound? Outbound messaging at scale is what a broad suite was designed for. Inbound volume reaching a human, and the work that follows it, is what we were designed for.

What is sitting in your queues right now? Count unanswered calls last week, referrals older than seven days, and failed eligibility checks not yet worked. If those numbers are large, better messaging is not the fix.

Frequently asked questions

What is Solutionreach?
Solutionreach is an all-in-one patient engagement platform, one of the earliest in healthcare messaging. It covers appointment reminders, two-way texting, online scheduling, digital intake and check-in, recall, batch messaging, patient surveys, reputation management, payments and insurance eligibility, and serves dental, eye care and medical practices including DSOs and vision groups. Its athenahealth Marketplace listing, under SR Health, has been live since November 2017 and holds 102 practice connections as of 7 September 2026.
Is Pretty Good AI a replacement for Solutionreach?
For an athenaOne medical practice, yes. Reminders, secure two-way texting, recall, surveys and review requests, intake and online scheduling are part of the configured workflow, and the phone is covered too. If another marketplace app does a workflow you need, we can build it for you on the same APIs and to your rules, including replacing a tool that is missing the mark. The boundary is athenaOne: locations on a different practice management system stay outside what we cover.
Both now offer an AI receptionist. How do I tell them apart?
Test the same hard call on each, with your own call types. Ask what happens when the patient interrupts mid-sentence, when they ask something the AI cannot do, and when the call needs to change something in the chart while the patient is still on the line. Real-time voice is a different build from asynchronous messaging, so that is where the difference shows up rather than on a feature list.
We are a multi-location group with a mix of specialties. Does that change the answer?
It depends on what the locations run on. If every location is on athenaOne, our depth in that one system is available everywhere, and we handle routing across departments, specialties and locations to your rules. If some locations run on a different system, a multi-system suite covers ground we do not, and you should weigh one vendor everywhere against depth where most of the volume is.
How far will you go? Is there work you will not automate?
If it is in athenaOne and a person, a piece of software or an AI could do it today, we want to go after it. We start with your biggest pain point, prove it, and keep expanding month by month, from the first call through the visit and the bill. Clinical decisions stay with your care team.
Can a practice run both?
Yes, and some do during a transition. The rule is the same as with any overlapping vendor: pick one owner for appointment reminders and one owner for waitlist and recall outreach before go-live. Two systems both sending confirmations is the fastest way to get patients to ignore all of them.
