Pretty Good AI vs Weave
Pretty Good AI vs Weave
Weave is a publicly traded all-in-one practice communications platform: phones, messaging, payments. Pretty Good AI is an athenaOne-only AI team. Two different purchases.
The short answer
Weave is a publicly traded all-in-one communications platform for small practices — phone system, messaging, reminders, reviews and integrated payments — sold across many verticals and many EHRs. Pretty Good AI is not a phone system. It is an athenaOne-only AI team that connects to 500+ athenaOne APIs and completes administrative front office work. Most practices that compare us end up deciding whether they need infrastructure or automation.
When Weave is the better fit: You need to replace the phone system itself, you want messaging, reviews and card payments bundled with it, and you are a small practice that would rather have one vendor for all of that than the deepest possible athenaOne automation.
Pretty Good AI vs Weave, side by side
| Dimension | Pretty Good AI | Weave |
|---|---|---|
| What you are buying | AI that works inside athenaOne. Not a phone system — it sits on the line you already have. | The communications infrastructure itself: phone system, messaging, reminders, reviews and payments. |
| EHR scope | athenaOne only. | Broad EHR and practice-software support across multiple verticals. |
| Integration depth | 500+ athenaOne APIs connected, out of roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes. | Does not publish an athenaOne endpoint count. |
| Automation depth | AI completes booking, refills, referral intake, eligibility, prior-auth prep, denials and KPI reporting inside athenaOne. | Automation is largely messaging, reminders, reviews and payment workflows rather than deep administrative athenaOne work. |
| athenahealth Marketplace record | 17 reviews, all five-star, 40 practice connections, listed since September 2025. | Listed in May 2026. 94 practice connections and no marketplace reviews yet as of September 2026. |
| Marketplace growth, 22 May to 4 September 2026 | 17 to 40 practice connections, +135.3% — the highest growth rate of any listing that started the window with 10 or more connections. | Listing opened 18 May 2026 at 4 practice connections and reached 94. That is an existing customer base being wired up to the athenahealth integration rather than new acquisition, so it is not a like-for-like growth rate. |
| Published pricing | Pricing model published: platform per location, a per-provider fee for the modules switched on, voice per call. Quote on request. Your first 30 days live are free, and terms are month-to-month. | Packaged plans sold per location with a quote required; hardware and payment processing priced separately. |
| What we run on top of your phone line today | Symptom screening on the Schmitt protocol, voicemail written to athenaOne as a case, fax and web referral intake, the web scheduler and self-check-in, waitlist backfill and appointment acceleration, tickler and order-driven recalls, balances and payment links, surveys and review requests, and forms signed inside athenaOne. | Phone system, messaging, reminders, reviews and integrated payments sold as one bundle across many verticals and many EHRs. |
This is usually not an either-or
Most comparisons in this category are between two vendors doing the same job. This one is not. Weave sells the plumbing — the phone system, the messaging layer, reminders, reviews, card payments — as one bundle for a small practice. We sell Voice-first and omni-channel AI that works inside athenaOne and rides on whatever phone line you already have, with patient-engagement infrastructure for surveys, AI forms, reviews and reputation management.
That distinction is architectural, not a claim about quality: Weave began as phone-system and communications infrastructure, while Pretty Good AI was built voice-first and extended into asynchronous patient-engagement channels.
Practices run both, and that is a perfectly sensible outcome.
When the comparison is real
The comparison becomes genuine when a practice is trying to solve call volume and is looking at “buy the platform that includes automation” versus “buy the automation”.
Bundled automation in a communications platform is broad and shallow by design: reminders, confirmations, review requests, payment links, message templates. It is genuinely useful and it covers a lot of ground cheaply.
What it does not do is finish athenaOne work. Booking against the right appointment type and provider group, routing a refill to the correct queue, attaching a faxed referral to the right order, prepping a prior auth, working a denial, closing a tickler. Those need depth in one system rather than breadth across many, which is why we connect 500+ athenaOne APIs out of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes and support nothing else.
The marketplace picture
Weave listed on the athenahealth Marketplace in May 2026 and has 94 practice connections with no marketplace reviews yet as of September 2026. That is a young listing for a large public company, and it reflects that athenaOne is one of many systems they support rather than the center of the product.
We listed in September 2025 and have 40 practice connections, 17 reviews, all five-star. Fewer practices, more of them talking.
How to decide
Two questions settle it.
First: do you still need to buy a phone system? If yes, that is a Weave-shaped purchase and we are not in it.
Second: when a patient calls, how much of what happens next lives in athenaOne? If the answer is most of it, the depth of the athenaOne integration is the variable that matters, and that is the one to press both vendors on.
Why practices pick us over Weave
Four parts, one platform, and each part uses the others. Most of the vendors on this site own one of these four well. The argument for us is that the same integration and the same patient memory carry all four, and that it is athenaOne only.
Patient engagement
We bring patients in and keep them close
We pick up the phone, day and night. Patients reach you by phone, text, chat or video. They book, reschedule, ask for a refill or get an answer. We call and text for you too — confirmations, recalls, and open slots to fill. Our AI remembers what a patient already told your practice, across every channel, so nobody repeats themselves.
Workflow automation
We do the staff work that piles up
A cancellation, a new referral, an overdue follow-up or a staff request starts a job. We do the steps, reach the patient if we need to, and hand the rest to your staff with everything they need. Your team sees the work in the Pretty Good AI Console or right inside athenaOne. Clinical decisions stay with your care team, always.
Referral management
We turn referrals into first visits
Referrals arrive by fax, portal and form. We track each one from intake to first visit, chase the missing information, reach the patient and book the visit. You see where every referral stands, and where the funnel leaks.
Revenue cycle
We keep revenue moving
Money leaks around every visit. We check insurance before the visit, track approvals so visits are not held up, call patients about balances, set up payment plans, and follow up on the claims your team hands us. Built to your billing team’s rules.
We only do athenaOne
One system means we go deep. We connect 500+ of the roughly 800 endpoints athenahealth exposes, and we read and write the real record — no middleware. Most vendors in this category connect ten or twelve. That depth is what lets a workflow finish instead of stopping at a handoff.
We build yours
If you can write down the rule, we can automate it. Your scheduling rules, your intake questions, your handoffs, your billing follow-up. And if another athenaOne marketplace app does a workflow you need, we can build it for you — same APIs, your rules, one vendor.
Live and measured
- 100,000+
- patient calls a month, at more than one customer
- About 60%
- of those calls handled start to finish by the AI at the largest deployments
- Hundreds
- of providers inside a single group
- 20
- specialties on our athenahealth Marketplace listing
The mix is deliberately wide: FQHCs, family practice and primary care, OB-GYN, behavioral health, orthopedics, pulmonology and sleep, gastroenterology, urology, urgent care and surgery centers among them. Different specialties break the front office in different places, and the rules that fix them are not the same rules.
Customer-reported results. Your numbers will vary by workflow, staffing, seasonality and call mix.
Month to month, no setup fees. We build your first workflow before you pay anything, then the first 30 days live are free from the day it goes live — not the day we start building.
We don’t sell AI. We build yours.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Pretty Good AI a replacement for Weave?
- No. Weave includes the phone system itself along with messaging, reviews and payments. Pretty Good AI is not a phone system — it is AI that answers and completes work on the line you already have, whether that line runs through Weave or anything else. Practices commonly run both.
- Can Pretty Good AI work alongside Weave?
- Yes. Because Pretty Good AI does not replace your telephony, it can sit in front of an existing phone platform and handle the calls that would otherwise ring through to staff, writing the outcome back into athenaOne.
- Which one is better for a small practice?
- A small single-site practice that still needs to replace its phone system, send reminders, collect reviews and take card payments is a natural Weave customer. A practice that already has telephony and is drowning in athenaOne work — scheduling, refills, referrals, eligibility — is the one we are built for.
- How much does Weave cost?
- Weave sells packaged plans per location and requires a quote for the final number, with hardware and payment processing priced separately. Pretty Good AI also quotes, and publishes its pricing model: platform fee per location, a per-provider fee for the modules switched on, and voice metered per call handled.
